Caption warm-up

Akins high school student Ian Loy races with the FFA goat during class, the goat takes a wrong turn leaving Ian confused. Ian comes and plays with the goat every Friday since freshman year.. Leading lines, the fence in the background all leading to Ian. Mergers, there is a blue tracker behind his back. There is balance, because Ian is at the top of the photo and the goat is at the bottom. This photo also has depth cause it looks 3D.

Caption writing practice.

Courtney Jackson smiles silly at the camera, during the half time show. She usually takes the photos for the half time show not getting her photo taken.

Brandon Watson, taking the final shot as the alarm goes off for the final buzzer at the Akins basketball game versus Crockett. He missed the shot unfortunately leaving the game to a split tie at 28-28.
Composition rules- This photo definitely has some mergers in it, the random arm coming from behind Brandon this taking away from the photo. Leading lines, his arms leading to the basketball. He is very close to the rule of thirds, rule of thirds is when you make a imaginary tic tac toe lines and if he ends up in any part of the lines that meet close to any corner but not exactly in the corner then you are in the rule of thirds.

Gabe aka "Big Guy" Maldonado its in art class finishing up the finally touches of his art project he is currently making for his mother back home. Right after he finishes the project he leaves it in the classroom and it gets thrown away, fortunately he has another project that his mother enjoys even more.
Rule of thirds, his shoulder is in rules of thirds.

In art class, different students from all over campus are creating sculptures of there favorite animals. This one student created a hand holding an owl. Mergers, a random women holding another owl coming out from under the sculpture owl, the half of the teachers head. Half of the students head. Leading lines, lines leading to the foot. No depth, because the 3 main parts of the pictures are not in focus.

1. On your blog post your reactions to the power point...
I'm not usually a big fan of photography of animals, but I actually really liked these photos. The angles are perfect and he used so many photo compositions.

2. What was your favorite photo? Describe it and tell me why its your favorite
Photo 24. Its a picture of a beautiful tree, and just a single giraffe looking out at the horizon.

3. Look up the photographer –
a.     What kind of camera did he use? Cannon 85 mm.
b.     What is his reason for taking the photos? He is trying to aware people about the elephants that are being killed.
c.     What is his hope by taking these types of photos? Hope that people will have some compassion for these elephants.
d.     Find something he has to say about Africa and post the quote on your blog "You want to believe that these beautiful are still wandering the African plains. But in a very short space of time, most of the large tusk elephants featured in my books have been killed by poachers and their ivory."

4. Find one of his photos that you really like and post it on your blog.

Touching People

1. What do you think about this project and photo essay?
I think its kind or neat, but you can see the awkwardness in the look of some of the people in the photo.

2. What would you do if someone approached you with a camera and asked you to participate in a photo shoot and then asked you to touch a stranger?

I'd think it was a bit strange, I'd ask who it was I'd be touching and what for and how I'd be touching them or they'd be touching me and if it was okay then I'd do it.

3. Think of an unusual photo shoot similar to this one that you think would be fun to go and shoot.

Probably like an old scenery photo shoot, like the flapper times.

4. Finally, tell me what you thought of the photography, did the photographer think about the rules of photography that you know about? What types of photos did he take?

I thought it was normal, nothing special to me, looks the photos you get taken for a family photo. Some photos were showing simplicity and lines, but a lot the photos had merges that were distracting me and some backgrounds were very good.

  • If to many students/parents are upset about this fact will there be a change in decision?
  •  If Austin ISD wants this, is it the schools principle's decision whether or not they want that for their school?

Sports/Action more details

Photographer name: Alyssa Schukar

List three problems that the judges note with the portfolio -
The judges said a lot of the photos were depressing and they would like to see more optimism, they said all the photos were shot at the same distance, the also said this photographer used the same lens.
List two things the judges like-
One judge said he really liked the picture with the man sweeping garbage with a shovel, he said he loved the pastel background and all the colors. Another judge said the one he really liked and his favorite was the one with the girl who fell down on the track while doing hurtles.
What is your overall impression? What did you like or not like?
My overall impression was that I liked a few of the pictures, and I like how she caught the emotion of some people in her photos but overall I didn't like them. I found them very boring. The judges were right all the photos were almost the exact same, all shot at a certain distance. She didn't get in any special views. Nor did she try to move the camera around at all. I didn't like it all that much honestly.

Winning Portfolio-Dustin Snipes

What did the judges note as strengths as they were critiquing it?

Color, composition, tight, very good positioning.

What do you see as strengths? Do you see any weaknesses?
As for strengths, I like a really big was is how he takes his pictures and the angles he gets in make it seem like your actually in the photo. He makes his photos seem like your a person and your seeing what he sees, if that makes sense.

Contest recap video

Briefly describe the process the judges went through in deciding the winner.
How the judges chose the winner, is the call out the number of the photo and they all go around talking what they liked or didn't like about the photo. If there are too many photos that they didn't like about the photographers then that photographer is out, until they finally found the one they liked.

_________________________________________

Parts 1-6

1. Describe one photo that you agree with the judges on. Explain why you and the judges do or do not like it.
The photo of the racing goats I think is what they are in part 5-best student image. They said the background wasn't that good. The fence bars behind the animals were mergers. I didn't like it.

2. Describe one photo that you do NOT agree with the judges on. Explain why you think the judges are wrong.
I disagreed with the first photo of the first video. The one of the race car. I actually think the photo was rather good, and the photographer had the camera positioned in the right place. I didn't think it was nothing I thought it was pretty cool, and you can tell how incredibly fast the race car driver was going. I liked it.

Japanese Earthquake

I find this photo very sad, and dramatic. I just think to myself how horrible it must be for then. It makes me feel so lucky and thankful I am to have a home and a bed to sleep in. Just thinking about not even 2 weeks ago they had everything. A home, a bed, a family and in a matter of minutes their life was turned around and lost everything.
This photo really made me think. I can't really relate to this girl, but I can in a way because she a teenager. I can't imagine whats going in her head right now. But I'm pretty sure she lot everything from just seeing how alone she is. No home, no family, probably lost her boyfriend in this to. Everything and everyone gone. I don't know what I'd do if I were her. When everything you know is destroyed where would you go, how can she get help.

I like this photo mainly because it gives an overall review of how everything was destroyed and how terrible things really look. I can imagine then place I've lived all my life looking like this. Everything is gone or underwater. Things look dirty, and broken. I can tell it will take a long time to repair things. Not only remaking buildings, cities, and homes but the people to. It will take a while to repair all the people who survived this tragedy. Not just these 3 photos but all of them just made me feel more thankful of what I have and more aware that anything can happen. Even to good people, and its nobody's fault.

Cool advertising ideas

I like a lot of the ideas, some much creative and detailed than others, this isn't the best detailed one but I like it. Mainly because I like underwater creations but I love all the detail and many hands involved in not just this photo but all. I chose this picture specifically because there are many like this photo, for example they used this scenery for the Bahamas. But they had more like United Kingdom, Mexico, China, ect. They used pictures with hands to go with their culture.

Happy, Akins, Building - publish your photos

Happy!
I love this picture of happy, it is in rule of thirds I like how its a side view and her face is dark. I also like how how this photo wasn't planned at all.

Akins!
I took this for Akins because it shows the schools team spirit. I love how its a drawing and not actually football i think it gives it a little something.

Building!
This picture catches my eye because of the dull color, the leading lines and the angle it was taken at. If could improve this photo I'd remove the trash can.

Portrait and self-portrait tips and ideas

    TIPS

Use your imagination! A self-portrait can reveal a lot about you, by including props and even other people that are meaningful in your life. If you've never attempted to shoot a self-portrait, expand your creative horizons and give it a try.

A self-portrait doesn't have to be of your face—the image of two hands holding a camera says a lot about the photographer who shot his own portrait. You can also aim the camera down your body from eye level. I once took a photo of my own feet in hiking shoes, hanging over the edge of a rocky outcropping in a scenic spot (if you try something like this, just make sure you're in a safe place that you won't fall from). A picture like this will say a lot about your activities and surroundings.

Have fun with it. Be sexy. Be yourself. Be awesome. Be different. Be creative. Whatever you do, have fun with it. That’s part of the point, after all.

     Environmental portrait

I really like this phot for a couple of reasons. Mainly because I really enjoy photos that tell a story, that has to do with everyday life, and that makes you feel what the photo is really about. The setting is nice in the photo and you it gives a sense of what she feels. You can tell she's depressed and isn't happy with herself.
Again like I said I love photos that have to do with everyday, this one is unique because not only does it tell and story and contribute to everyday life but it sends off a message. Plus its black and white giving it that only upsetting feeling in the photo
This photo is really unique and I love how there are
many different things and ways, you can make a self portrait.

This self portrait is really unique as well. I like how the bathroom isn't really clean at all and you can tell its old. She looks like she has a lot on her mind that's bothering her. I love this picture everything about it is beautiful.

I love this photo, this is actually my friend Megan. I think this because this whole photo expresses who she is. Everything in the back ground is so fun and free I love how the cat is looking at her and the boarder around the photo.

This photo looks like it was taken unexpectedly at a part of some sort. I love the style of the girl and her not caring about anything expression on her face. I love how the photo is edited. How grungy she looks.

    Welcome back!!

I think this is just over all a cool picture, I love the different colors. Its looks like a great deal of water is falling out of the sky, which wouldn't usually be weird. But this picture is just so unique. Something you wouldn't see everyday. Plus my favorite is the little tree.

I love this photo simply because I adore the stars. It looks like a mix between morning and night. It looks like right when the sun is coming up in the morning but also like night is trying to take over forming a bright white light in the center.

This photo is very different. It looks like an abandoned old church, but when you think of old abandon churches you think pale colors and dirt, but that the weird part of this photo the colors are so bright and beautiful of blues, teals, greens, and a little bit of a orangey yellow. Like an underwater abandoned church!
